Conversations with a 7 yr. old

Random conversation with my seven year old son...

Z: When you die and go to heaven, are you really still alive and able to move your body?

Me: Well, sort of...your physical body dies and is left here on earth, but, your spiritual body goes to heaven (I'm already thinking maybe my explanation was not a good one and was too deep for him)

Z: But, can you walk around in heaven?

Me: Yeah, I think so.

Z: Good. Then it'll be fun to go there and see everybody

Me: Yep

Z: It must be pretty big up there

Don't you just love how there little minds work!

I got a tattoo!

Well, no....I didn't really get a tatoo. But, I feel like I have one. On my butt. You remember that I was sick the other week ago. When I went to the doctor, he not only prescribed oral antibiotics, but, he also gave me a shot of antibiotics. In my rear. Now, this was the day that I was so sick and out of it that I was barely able to drive myself home from his office. When I got home, I immediately went to bed. For the next two days, I lay in bed, unable to get up except for a few times to use the bathroom. In my fever and drug-induced state (I was on antibiotics, decongestant, cough medicine with codeine), I didn't realize that the band-aid was still on my butt from where I received the shot. It stayed in place for those two days until finally I happened to notice it, and ripped it right off. I don't know if I was allergic to the band-aid adhesive or the latex or what, but, it left a perfect red, raised impression of the band-aid. It has now become less raised and faded to pink. But, I swear, it's not going away. So, I'm left with what looks like a pink band-aid tatoo on my butt. Lovely. I"ve always wanted a tatoo. Maybe a little flower or butterfly, on my lower back. Not a band-aid on my butt!

Sunday Sunday

I think we are FINALLY all feeling better. Still coughing and stopped up ears, but, no more fevers, aches, chills, etc. We , have had a laid-back weekend...baseball/softball signups for the three youngest kids, Zachary went to a birthday party, catching up on laundry, watching movies, and, me, I have been totally engrossed in the book, 'The Other Boleyn Girl'. I finished it in the wee hours of the morning; I just could not put it down. I love the whole Tudors/King Henry story line, so I loved this book. They have made this book into a movie, and I am dying to see it. I cannot imagine having lived during this time period. How scary that girls had no say in the things that happened to them.

If you get the chance, check out ABC's Extreme Home Makeover tonight. It's the episode about a family from our town. It took place about 20 minutes from where I live. I love this show, anyway, but, am especially excited to watch it tonight since it's on a local family.

On the agenda today, Shelby has a volleyball game. Other than that, I need to do a little house cleaning. Yes, I know...such an exciting life I lead. But, that's about it.

One step forward...two steps back

Ok, I thought I was on the mend. I think I tried to do too much yesterday and now I'm feeling puny again. And, to top it off, hubby has come down with the "flu-like" stuff, too. And, Connor (my 9 yr. old) came in from playing in the snow to say he doesn't feel good (fever, headache). We had a winter storm warning last night, and got about 2-3 inches of snow/ice. Schools are cancelled. I am super-stressed! I have not even had a chance to buy Valentine cards for the kids' school parties on Thursday. YIKES! Will this month just hurry up already!

10-Day Update

I'm trying to find my way back....after

  • one 24-hr stomach virus
  • immediately followed by fever, chills, aches, pains, etc.
  • one trip to Immediate Care Center where they tell me it's something "viral"
  • in the meantime, 7 yr. old comes down with same symptoms, goes to the dr., it's the flu
  • 14 yr. old also sees dr, he has ear infection
  • my "viral" thing worsens, I drive myself to the dr. when I had no business driving, almost blacking out several times
  • diagnosis: bronchitis and double ear infections causing me major temporary hearing loss (thank goodness for closed captioned tv)
  • Now, 3 dr. visits, one shot, 7 prescriptions @ $130, $110 in c0-pays, and many days in bed, we are finally feeling a few signs of life
  • and, you don't even want to know how bad my laundry is or how bad my house looks!
