Recipe Organization

This mess you are looking at is my recipe book. As you can see, it's very unorganized - overflowing with pages and pages of recipes that I have printed on the computer or pulled out of magazines. Every time I get it out to look for a recipe, it stresses me out...papers fall out or I can't find what I'm looking for. I really want to work on this and get it in order. I'm having trouble deciding how I want to organize everything. I don't like recipe cards, they seem too small and condensed. I do prefer the idea of a recipe box over a recipe book. And, I want to keep the photos that are on the recipes I've printed or pulled out of magazines. So, any suggestions? How do you organize your recipes?

I typed up all my recipes, sat down with my aunt and went over family recipes from great grandmothers, and created a computerized book. I started on this because my oldest son was getting married and I wanted to give him the recipes as a wedding present. It allows you to take your family food traditions and give them as gifts to BFFs and FFM (favorite family members). There are recipe "binder" books that allow you to organize after you print. They even have additional places for those handwritten ones that maybe you don't want to part with for "historical" reasons.

I have all of my go to recipes on cards in a recipe box. But I also have some stored on the computer.

I keep them in such files: http://fascikel.com/ (I don't know how they are called in English).

I'm a "ripper" like you. I got a three ring binder and bought some of those clear plastic pages that you can put paper into and put the recipes in those pages (to protect from spills) and then filled up the binder. Worked like a charm.

My recipe situation is totally out of control. Some are in a binder. Some are in a loose folder. Some are on the computer. Some are in a recipe card box. I really need to condense and put them all in the same place so I can actually find them easily when I need to.

When I print one from the internet I print it on a full page and put it in a clear sleeve in a 3 ring binder. This is also where my recipes that are ripped out of magazines go. It is kind of my "to try" binder. Once it has become a family staple (if it does) I write it out onto recipe cards and put it in the recipe box just because it makes me think of my Grandma who used recipe cards. Anyways if it is an o.k. dish but not one to get rid of it stays in the binder. I hope this makes sense. I guess they have to kind of "graduate" to the recipe box. :) Good luck in all of your organizing. Oh and I just confirmed you as a friend on goodreads :)
