Aloha Friday - Classic Reading

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday, hosted by Kailani over at An Island Life. In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day to take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So, on Fridays we can take it easy on blog posting, too.

I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer - nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, visit An Island Life where you can link up with your own question and also visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Yesterday, my daughter brought home a reading list from her sophomore honors english class. The list contained around 50 selections of mostly classic literature. She has to choose four books from the list to read this semester. It's been a long time since I've devoted any time to reading the classics, but, I do remember them from way back when and I certainly have some favorites. It was fun to go over the list with my daughter and discuss the various book choices. I actually went down to the basement and searched through some boxes until I found my old books. Turns out, I had several from her list. For her choices, she's considering, Pride and Prejudice, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Wuthering Heights. She's still mulling over her fourth choice.

What about you? Did you or do you like to read classic literature? What's your favorite?

I'm a bookworm - and the classics never get old. :) I think it's cool you still had some of your books that were on your daughter's list! :)

Oh I'll read anything! I LOVE books. These days with kids and blogging, it's just finding the time to dedicate to it instead of just little minutes here and there.

I do like to read the classics. If I have to chose a favorite it would be a Dickens novel.

I was an English major, so yes I love classic children's books like the Little Princess and Secret Garden, Little House on the Prairie, Jane Eyre, Shakespeare, Count of Monte Cristo. But not all of it, though...hated Great Expectations (Olive Twist was better), The Pearl (Is the point not to hope? Really?), and many others. Last of the Mohicans was better as a movie.

Enjoy modern lit too!

I read some really old classics like the Iliad in college. I enjoyed it.

Have a great rest of your Friday!

I've never read a classic. Just doesn't interest me and as I get older, I know I am definitely missing out. I just might have to make a trip to the library once my daughter starts school this fall and read one!

I love to read but I haven't read any of the classics yet. I really should look more into them.
