Find Your New Pet with Petfinder.com

This is not a sponsored post. I'm just sharing something that is near and dear to me.

Many of you may remember that we lost our beloved family dog, Emma, last year. It was truly a devastating thing to go through and we still miss her tremendously. She was the most loving and sweet girl!

Even though we were filled with grief over losing Emma, we knew that we wanted another dog. We are just dog people and think that having a pet as a part of our family is very important.

When we began our search for a new pet, the first place we turned was Petfinder.com. It's a wonderful site that lets you search for adoptable animals. You can search for specific breeds or you can just search for any that are near your location. There's also a wealth of information about animal care, pet rescue centers, and ways you can help. I can't tell you how many hours we spent pouring over pictures of adorable dogs that were in need of new homes. (Sidenote: I think I could become one of those old ladies who has 100 dogs - they are all so sweet and it breaks my heart to think of how many are waiting to be adopted.)

If you take a look over in my sidebar there's a nifty little Petfinder widget...go ahead, I'll wait while you check it out. You can use it to do a quick search for adoptable pets. Try it out - especially if you are considering getting a new pet. I really encourage you to look into adopting a shelter/rescue animal. Not only are you potentially saving an animal's life, but you are gaining a wonderful addition to your family. And, usually, these pets have already been spayed/neutered, received shots or medical care, and are often microchipped (a wonderful service).

We actually did find our new pet using Petfinder.com. She's a beagle-blue heeler mix. We saw her picture and found out that she was only about 25 minutes away. We adopted her and she has been a part of our family for a little over a year now.

Try out the widget and let me know what you think. You might just find a new furry friend!

So sorry to hear about your loss, but so happy to hear about the new addition to the family! We just had a new addition to our family too.
I wrote about it here:
A Christmas Miracle in October

Huge fan on Petfinder too!

I am so sorry about the loss of your dog, and am glad that you have a new addition to your family. I adopted one of my dogs using Petfinder and highly recommend it also.

She's so cute! I have looked on petfinder a few times in the past but we weren't in a position to be able to adopt at the time. I know my local humane society always lists available pets there so its a great way to find available rescues.

Piper is SO cute! We've been considering getting a cat. We currently don't have any animals and I think a cat would make a nice companion for my little one. I'll definitely check out Petfinder. Thank you for sharing!
