Okay...I will say up front that this movie is not for everyone. It's kinda silly and goofy but I loved it and laughed out loud. A lot.

Having said that, there's no way my husband would've made it through 10 minutes of this movie (he probably couldn't even tell you who "Jane Austen" is so there ya go). If you don't know who Jane Austen is, then you might not appreciate this movie, either. If you are a fan of Jane Austen or of historical romance/comedy, then you will probably get a kick out of Austenland.

Jane Hayes is young and single and a HUGE fan of the classic novelist, Jane Austen. To say that she is a fan might be a bit of an understatement. She is obsessed with all things Jane Austen and her obsession gets in the way of any normal romantic relationship. When she decides to go on an authentic, immersive Jane Austen vacation experience, Jane is sure she will find the kind of romance that she has always wanted. But, after spending a little time in the Jane Austen era, she begins to rethink her entire attitude toward romance.

If you don't take Austenland too seriously, you will find that it is charming, light-hearted, and funny. It is a sweet story with lots of hilarious characters that will keep you laughing.

Rated PG-13 for some suggestive content and innuendo.

Being Flynn is based on the acclaimed memoir of poet/playwright Nick Flynn

While working in a homeless shelter, Nick (Paul Dano) encounters his long-absent father. The father, played by Robert De Niro, claims to be a world famous writer but in reality, seems to be a mentally unstable alcoholic. As Nick tries to find his own place in the world, the sudden appearance of his father brings much turmoil. Very emotional story and terrific acting by Dano and De Niro.

Rated R for language throughout, some sexual content, drug use, and brief nudity.
Available on Netflix

This Fall, I'm Drinking Pink with mike's hard lemonade #mymikesmoment

“I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for mike’s hard lemonade. I received a Circle K gift card to facilitate this review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.”

All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

As a mom of four, I stay pretty busy. I also help take care of my 76 year old mother. Between taking kids to and from school and activities, going to appointments, and going grocery shopping and running household errands, it feels like I'm always on the go. It's sometimes hard to remember I need to stop and take a break and enjoy a little time for myself.

One simple way that I like to relax and treat myself is by sitting on the back porch and enjoying a refreshing beverage like mike’s hard lemonade. Now that the cooler autumn evenings are starting to arrive, I enjoy inviting my good friend and neighbor (who also happens to be a busy mom) over for a chat and a cocktail. Sitting on the porch and sipping our mike’s hard lemonade is a great way to unwind and catch up with the things that are going on in our lives. We both have daughters who just went away to college so having that in common gives us lots to talk about.

Mike’s Hard Lemonade Co. is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary. They are best recognized for their iconic mike’s hard lemonade that uses real lemons – the whole lemon, including both the juice and the zest – which results in a very crisp and refreshing beverage. Right now, their seasonal flavor, mike’s hard pink lemonade is on shelves and available until Octoberish. Since 2009, mike’s hard lemonade has released this seasonal pink lemonade flavor each year to support breast cancer awareness and has contributed more than one million dollars to breast cancer research. That’s definitely a product that not only tastes great but one I can feel good about buying!

Another thing that makes it easy for me to enjoy mike’s hard lemonade is that I can pick it up on one of my regular trips to my local Circle K store. I live in a fairly small town and the Circle K store is located right in the center. I literally pass by there every time I’m out. It’s where I fill up my car with gas and a quick and convenient place to run in when I need snacks or staples such as milk and bread.

So, this fall, when I need to savor a moment for myself, I’ll be “drinking pink” and supporting a great cause at the same time.

Have you tried mike's hard pink lemonade? What's your favorite flavor?

Guilt-Free Snacking with Harvest Snaps

This post was created in partnership with Harvest Snaps. I have been compensated for this post. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

As a mom to teenagers, snacks are a big part of our daily lives. The kids want grab-and-go snacks that taste great. I want that too, but I also want to provide foods that are healthier than your average junk-food options.

I recently learned about a new line of snacks called Harvest Snaps - "chip-like" snacks that are made from whole lentils and whole peas.

I received a pack of Harvest Snaps in various flavors to try out.  I have to admit, I was somewhat skeptical. Would something made out of lentils and peas really be a hit with my picky teenagers?

After sampling all the flavors, I can say we are now big fans of Harvest Snaps. They look a bit like french fries but are crispy and light like potato chips. The flavors are good. Depending on which you choose, there are some that are quite zesty and others that are more mild. My favorite is the Tomato Basil Lentil Snaps. My kids like a little more zing so they really liked the Wasabi Ranch Snapea Crisps.

The Lentil Snaps are made from 65% whole lentil and have less fat, more fiber, and less sodium than regular potato chips. The Snapea Crisps are made from 70% whole peas and also have less fat, more fiber, and lower sodium than regular chips. The Snapea Crisps are also gluten free. As I mentioned above, they come in a variety of flavors so there is something for everyone.

Now, when my family is looking for tasty but healthier options for snacking, we can turn to Harvest Snaps. They will be perfect for lunchbox additions or just anytime that we want something tasty for munching.
