Movie Night

Last night, I went with a friend to see a movie. We saw 'The Other Boleyn Girl'. I was so excited to see it, since I loved the book so much. I can't say that I didn't like it, but, I felt like it was a watered-down, fast-forward version of the book. I was disappointed at how little interaction they actually showed between Anne (Natalie Portman) and Henry (Eric Bana). It never really seemed like he was in love with her at all. You just didn't get the feeling of that intense passion that they had. And, I wished they would've gotten a little deeper into Eric Bana's character. But, Natalie Portman suprised me somewhat. She pulled off Anne's character pretty well. All in all, I would recommend the movie, but, even more so, I would recommend the book. Before the movie we went and had a quick drink (strawberry margarita, yum!) and after the movie we stopped at Starbucks (White mocha caffe, yum!) so it was a fun night out. If you go see it, let me know what you think of the movie.

Kari, Sounds like a perfect girls night out. I have found that I tend to like a movie, after having read the book, only is there has been a long time lapse between the two. Otherwise, I am always disappointed. Hope you are enjoying the weekend. Susan

I saw it last night, too. I agree with everything you said. They made his and Anne's relationship seem much more toxic than it was in the book. It was fast-forwarded and skimmed over the basic events, and I would have liked more. But then maybe it would have been a six hour movie? It was good, but I'm glad I read the book first. I don't know that I would have liked the movie as well had I not been given all the background.

Have you read any of her other books? I'm totally obsessed right now. I've read the Boleyn Inheritance and am currently on the Queen's Fool. Both very well done.

I didn't even know it was a book. I think I will pick one up next time I'm at the bookstore. Didn't see the movie yet -- maybe when it comes out on DVD.

Hi there :)
I don't know how you found me, but I'm glad you did. I really like your blog and plan on reading more, but I stopped when I read that you had seen that movie. My husband and I were going to go see it, but now I'm thinking wait for video and a run to the bookstore.
Thanks for writing about it!

Rue :)
