My "Word" for 2013

New Years Resolutions. I usually make them. I usually do not keep them.

I like the idea that I see more and more people adopting...choosing a "word" for the New Year. A special word that is meaningful to them; that will guide them through their new year.

After thinking and mulling over what I would like 2013 to be like for me, I have chosen my word for the year...
Do

It's an itty bitty word. Two little letters. But, those two little letters can pack a powerful punch. Dictionary.com defines "do" as follows: to perform an act, duty, or role; to accomplish; to put forth; to be the cause of; to bring about.

In 2013, I want to DO many things.

Do take care of myself by exercising and eating healthy.

Do more things with my kids. They are tween/teens now and it's easy for us to be caught up in our own things. I want to make sure to spend quality time with each of them.

Do help my mom to enjoy life and not feel so lonely by getting her out of the house for some fun activities or just spending some extra time with her every chance I get.

Do learn something new. This is a tough one for me - one that I always put on my list of resolutions but never seem to accomplish. Whether it's learning to play a song on the piano or ukulele, learning to bake a homemade pie crust, or learning some new technical blogging skill...I do want to learn something new. Hopefully many somethings.

Do read, read, read. That's something I always want to do.

Do not be afraid to make some decisions and stick to them.

Do kind things for others.

Do learn to better manage my time.

Do things that make me happy. Don't do things that make me unhappy.

“This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature. Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do it for you. Take the power to make your life happy.”   ~Susan Polis Schutz

So, there you have it. My word for 2013.

Do you have New Years resolutions or your own special "word" for 2013? I would love for you to share below...

Great way to craft the resolutions with a word--and DO is quite a word to get you going. Hope you get to DO lots on your list and remember DO enjoy them too!
Happy new year

What a wonderful list! Exercising and eating healthy are on my list too as is reading more. I love to read too and somehow have run out of time and don't read as much as I used to. I miss it.

That is a wonderful word! Sometimes it's easy to think about doing things that we don't make the effort to actually do it. Here's to an amazing year!
