Letting him spread his wings....just a little bit

My oldest son is 15, soon to be 16. Several of his friends are starting to get their driver's permits. Today, one of his close friends got his driver's license. He's the first boy in the group to get it. He just drove over for a little visit - and asked my son if he wanted to ride into town to McDonalds (which is less than 10 minutes away). We've known this boy for years, he's a good kid. So, we agreed to let our son go. But, I have to tell you, I'm sitting here on pins and needles waiting for them to get back. I tend to be very overprotective. It's just so scary, this whole letting him spread his wings thing.

Your sleepless nights are about to begin. I never realized how simple my life really was until the kids started driving and riding with other people. Happiness will become having everyone safely in the house so that you can go to bed!

Oh Lord. I'm dreading this day when it comes. Thank God it is a quite a ways off. I guess the best you can do is hope they are not idiots when they get together in the car. Hopefully everyone got back safely : )

Kari, I wish that I could say something to relieve your anxiety, but this is the toughest topic for me. My daughter is on her way back to college as we speak. Her dorm mate is driving from NJ up to Vermont. I pray a lot and hold my breath...a lot. My son should be getting his license next month...it ain't easy!
