I am so appreciative of everyone who came over from SITS to say hello and offer prayers for my Dad. It really is amazing to have such strong support at a time like this - just reaffirms to me what a powerful network of women we have with SITS. I will be replying to and/or visiting each of you as I'm able. Thank you so much for everything!
To update you on my dad - he had the surgical biopsy on Monday. We know that it is definitely lung cancer, but, are waiting on pathology reports to come back and tell us exactly what type. Once that is determined, the oncologists will be able to decide on a treatment plan. It looks like it's going to be chemo and radiation. Because of the location of the lung mass (right next to his main bronchial tubes), they cannot surgically remove it. His scans that he did last week did show one small spot on his brain. But, it doesn't appear to have spread anywhere else in his body. He is still in the hospital to recover from the surgery. We hope he will be home today or tomorrow. Then, it sounds like his treatments may start as early as Friday. My mom is holding up okay on the outside, but, I know she is really taking it hard. These long days at the hospital are wearing her out. As a former hospital nurse, I tend to scrutinize everything and everyone who is working with my Dad. I'm happy to say that we have had excellent care - everyone at the hospital has been so kind and thorough. I will keep you posted....

I missed the original feature but clicked through this week's links today. I'll be praying for your dad too! :)
Kari, I'm thinking about you and your Dad. I'll pray for him. Take care of yourself. Hugs, my friend.
Kari, I just wanted you to know I'm continuing to pray for your family. I'm so glad you get to be there to help your parents. Be sure to take care of yourself also.
Well I am just new to your blog from SITS but hoping all goes well with your dad. Your mom is lucky to have you helping advocate his care. Be good to yourself right now and I hear you about the support from the internet - ironically on my blog from Sept 28th I posted about this similar subject.
My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1998 - it too was inoperable. Pretty much the same as your dad except his did not spread to the brain until a year later.
I have been on this roller coaster ride. I know what your family is about to go thru.
I think your background as a nurse will help . . . people think doctors are gods but they don't know everything.
Email if you need a friend.
