Aloha Friday - Names

It's Friday - time to take it easy and get ready for the weekend. I will post something quick and easy for you to respond to.

Today's topic is names. According to Baby First Year, here are the top ten baby names for 2009:

Top ten baby names for girls in 2009:

Ella
Grace
Emma
Elizabeth
Lorelei
Riley
Rory
Isabella
Chloe
Anna

Top ten baby names for boys in 2009:

Aiden
Jayden
Dylan
James
Gavin
Benjamin
Caleb
Nathan
Jack
Andrew

My Aloha Friday questions for you -

What are your favorite girl and boy names? (any names, not just from the lists)

Do you like your own first name? If you could change your name, what would it be?

My first name is Kari (pronounced like Carrie). I've never really disliked my name, but, do hate that so many people seem unsure how to pronounce it spelled this way. If I could change my name, I would probably choose Audrey or Georgia. I think they are both beautiful, feminine names.

I wanted to name lil' D Lucille after my grandmother, or Stellan instead of "D". The family over ruled me. I wanted to change my name every week growing up. That is probably why I have have 6 different nicknames. Aloha and take care.

I like Caroline and Edward.

I am quite content with my name. I tend to prefer classical, strong names such as Michael and Elizabeth.

My name is Audrey, one of your favorite names and I love my name in that no one else has it and I never turn in mistake thinking someone is speaking to me.

All my kids have "J" names, and I like them all. I do also love the names Sara and Emily. For boys, I have always liked Kevin. My name, Kelly, seems to work for me!

I like the names we gave to our children -- Alexandria and Macgregor :-)

I don't like my first name (Venus) because I was teased constantly as a child about it. So I ended up going by my middle name (Marie).

I love my name - Annie! My daughter's name is Elizabeth cause I didn't think it was popular (I was wrong! DOH!) and son's name is David (yay for not on the list!) I love traditional names :)

My name is Becca and I like it. I have two little cousins - Karson and Kaden - and I think those are cute names :)

I love the name Connor for a boy and Mia for a girl.

I love my name and wouldn't change it. =)

I loved my name...that is until Britney Spears showed up! but mine is spelled the "right" way..Brittany. I still like it, but I always got dumb commets when I was a waitress.
My favorite names Are..my daughter's name, Samantha, I also like Geneveive, Vivian, Spencer, and Cashton. I could go on and on and on....we're currently trying to get pregnant with our 2nd child, and I think about names ALL. THE. TIME.

When I was 18, I almost changed my name to Randi Jean. Am very glad I didn't and kept Hannah Mildred.

That's right ... Mildred.

Interesting that Lorelei and Rory are both in the top girl names! A lot of people must love Gilmore Girls!

Hmm, favorite names - I have so many! I tend to like classical names - not a big fan of trendy names.

My first name is OK, but it was VERY common when I was growing up, and always a pain to be one of three or four in a classroom.

Lately I've been liking Georgina.

Ha! I knew it. I have always loved the name Isabelle but then Twilight came out and I said to my husband. "Now we can't use that name."

"Why?" He wonders.

"Because EVERYONE will be using it now."

I was so right.

17. Kara @ His, Hers and Ours said...

My name is Kara, pronounce "care-a". It drives me CA-RAZY when people pronounce it "car-a". And I like it, and wouldn't want something different.

I wanted to name our daughter Rian (pronounced Ryan) Elizabeth, or had she been a boy, she would have been Ryan Walker. I was over ruled...but manged to get "Elizabeth". Hubby picked her first name, Callie, which is not very popular, but not odd, either.

Stopping by from SITS.

Your blog is fantastic!

And I'm a little biased about baby names. I have a daughter named Story and I am VERY partial to that name. So Story is my favorite girl name. Cassius is my favorite boy name. :-)

Well, I named my daughter Delaney and call her Laney!

Love the fact that you wrote about this. I also love that Lorelei and Rory are in the girls names...I miss Gilmore Girls -- i wish it would come back on again! My name is Chasity and although I would love to change it, I don't think I would...it is definitely a name people don't forget.

Praying for your family and your dad!

Sista friend,
Chasity

All 3 of my boyz would have been Lydia. *sigh*

Hey there. I love classic, old fashioned names. I have a Jack (13) and a Maddie (Madeline really, 10). Can't believe Lorelei is on the list...I've never come across one. My neighbor's dog is Riley, so I could never use that one. My name is Carolyn, but as a child I wanted to be something more girly like Alison. I like it now though. I would have liked to have been called Carrie.

Great blog! Glad I stopped by from SITS!

My choice for a boy is Jesse, and for a girl Noelle. My name is Catherine, but would prefer the spelling to be Kathryn. I go by Cathy, and my family calls me Kate. I have quite a few names that I answer to! :-)

I like Chloe and James from your list, and Slovenian names starting on a letter G, like Gabrijel and Gaja (though I don't know of a man or a boy called Gabrijel).
